2/12 and 2/14
« on: February 15, 2016, 06:16:58 PM »
Was able to fish our boat slips 6-8' for a little while on 2/12 before leaving to go out of town.  Managed nine keepers with three toads over 2#.  Best bait was orang/brown/orange (thanks SK) but did catch a few on a grape limeade that one of vernons other customers gifted me.

Got back in to town 2/14 in the pm and tried the docks for a little while but never got bit.  Headed out in the boat to be met by stronger than forecasted winds.  Felt fortunate to find a dozen keepers on three protected bp's in 18'.  Tried some other piles in 10-15' but never got a thump.  Just about every fish came on a constant pursuit white hot thump chubby.

Thanks.  This is getting ready to be my least favorite time of year.  It seems like once the spawn really gets going that the only place I can catch them is in my boat slips.  Spent a lot of time last year trying to find spots to catch them in skinny water from the boat like I read about, but think I caught maybe five total fish in less than 5 fow.

No 3#er yet.  Biggest was 2-13 that I caught before I really even knew how good of a fish that was.  Pretty sure there a few in LP and now is probably the time to catch one.  A couple of months ago a buddy was kind enough to give me a box full of jigs he had tied and that OBO was one I had forgotten.  Caught several big fish on it before breaking it off.  Already missing it.

Great fish, can't wait to hit my Tawakoni spawn spots for the big slabs in that lake. I never find those big fish in any numbers on my side of town.

Thanks for the comments guys.  Stopped by the docks yesterday and the bite was excellent, wish I could have stayed longer.  Lost two very big fish at the surface due to poor execution on my part.  Still sick about it, one would have pushed for a new PB.  Ready to get back after them tomorrow

Same story today.  They were thick this evening after work and lost the big fish at surface yet again.  Had 18 keepers in a little over an hour.  6-8' in boat slips

Quick stop at the slips this morning, kinda slow but caught a few nice ones with beautiful color.  Also saw some guys pounding the bank shallow with minnows catching some nice fish that looked really dark.   Too bad its getting ready to cool off, but then again it is still mid February.
