Some more dock slabs
« on: September 13, 2016, 06:32:50 PM »
Got wrapped up at work a little early today so stopped by the docks for a little thump therapy.  Caught a dozen or so solid slabs. Caught them all on a black/gray slab bandits.  All the fish off the dock up until today had come in the deepest water at the dock in 8-10' but today got a few in 6'.

Thanks guys.  Those shallow cove fish sure do look a lot more washed out than the pretty colors those deep water fish have.

If you ever get the chance to fish Lake Naconiche you'll catch the darkest crappie you've ever seen.  It's almost like they keep their courtin clothes on year round.

Very cool.  Those dark crappie sure are pretty.  I don't have  a truck to tow my boat anywhere else so I am pretty much stuck on Palestine.   Could be worse places to be stuck though.

Didn't catch as many today but did catch the biggest one for me there since april.  Went 2# even on my scale.  Looked to be completely stuffed full of bait.

Looks like a fun time.   I will be glad when it cools down a little bit more so I can  take my wife to our slip to fish.  We tried it last Friday but it was too hot for her to stay.   So we had to leave.

That post on September 16th above was the last time I caught any decent size or numbers of fish at our dock.  Had been trying regularly just not getting bit or only catching one or two unders.  Read BH's report of catching just off the bottom today then Had a buddy call me and said same thing, they caught all their fish just off the bottom today too, some deep and some shallow.  Made the decision to hit our docks and give it a shot on the bottom in brush since I had got in the pattern of fishing only 6-8' down swimming over brush and by pilings .  Ended up with a few dinks, a dozen keepers, and lost a good one trying to swing it up in short order.  Much better than expected.

Been checking the slips regularly but hadn't caught a keeper crappie in 2 months until this am.  Didnt have much time before church but there was a good wave of fish that came thru since Friday.  Caught six keepers and three unders and had two toads that I couldn't manage to swing up since the water level is still 1.5' low.  Both would have been pushing 2#. Usually dont start catching the big girls in the slips until at least the first week of February.  Will have the net ready next trip.  All fish came on tiny hand ties in 4 fow.

BH, they were 1/16 on a #8 hook in natural colors. Fish today knocked the fire out of the jig.

Water was alive yesterday on way home from work.  Solid plankton with lots of bait fish getting busted on top.  Caught six 11-12" fish yesterday real quick.  Had to stop again today and caught some even nicer ones. Nine keepers and lost the best one at the surface in thirty minutes.  Big fish still went 1-15.  Love this time of year!  All caught in 4-6' with the shallower stuff being a little better.

Thanks guys.  Just looked back at notes from last year.  Had 14 fish 2# or better in the slips last year in the month of February.  Tis the season.
