January 2018 winning crappie jigs from Dutch
« on: February 11, 2018, 11:54:39 AM »
Decided to start showing my contribution to the monthly contest with description for those who tie their own jigs.

All but one jig (pink black trues) is tied with "new age" chenille. I'll give the name of the chenille in each description. All tails are made from "craft fur" from Netcraft.

Top left, all brown, "Henry's Lake" chenille
Middle left, std black chenille
Bottom left, "neutron pink" chenille
Top right, "Silver black" chemille
Middle right, "New Wave" chenille
Bottom right, "Volcano" chemile

All these colors have been working in Lake Houston lately. These will be sent to Slabbed Silly tomorrow.

SK, I have your jigs in my tackle box. One day we will see each other on the water.

Well, guess what.   I went to package Slabbed Silly's jigs for mailing, looked up his PM with his address, and he had asked for 1/16th oz jigs.... and I tied 1/8th oz jigs. I'll re-tie the 1/16th ones identical in colors this afternoon and still get them into tomorrow's mail. I'll save these for another month's winner.

Nice indeed.  When you see jigs like this it kinda makes you hate to drop them into the water for fear of losing them.   :Thumbsup

OK Slabbed Silly, here are your 1/16th oz jigs with a 1/8th beside them for comparison. Took me 45 minutes to do these.

those are some nice jigs. I appreciate you donating your time and material to provide this prize for the board contest.

I still hate to drop them into the water for fear of losing them.  I'm good at hanging up and losing jigs.  But I still have a lot of your jigs.  You were very generous when you sent them to me.

I am changing all my rods over to braid to eliminate that problem.  It's actually smaller in dia than the 6# mono I have been using.

I tried nano, but it tends to overrun much easier than braid. It's 8# braid for me!

I figured if I was going braid I was going all the way.  So I went with 20# test.  Figure I won't many jigs from this point own.
