Do crappie care about the jig head color?
« on: August 24, 2017, 10:57:25 AM »
...well I'm going to find out. I tied these late this morning as an experiment. They are all the same color except the heads. I'll try them out next time I go crappie fishing, which will be later this year when it cools off some.

I woke up this morning.  At my age, that is a GOOD thing!

I'm not smart enough to know if it matters or not.  I will be interested in hearing the result of your experiment.

And I agree with you about cooler weather.   But I think today would have been nice enough had other things not claimed my time.

sometimes it for sure matters ...I think its the added contrast maybe and or the eye spot ....
but contrary to what I have seen some professionals say there is a time and a place where it for sure matters
hot pink ......is one .....it can make it happen  :clap

Dutch, most folks know me, I save the powder paint for the customers! 98% of the jigs I'll fish on any given day will be a plain, unpainted hand tie. I know for a fact there lots of folks that outcatch me (many by quite a lot) but I'm not convinced it has anything to do with color. I could be wrong. I would imagine it's a confidence thing. If you're more confident with a pink headed jig tied on, you're probably going to catch more fish than with some other color or even plain. I'd say, "Stick with what you trust!"

I like the powered paint on the jig heads.  It makes the folks who see me fishing them think I know what I am doing.

Have you determined if the color of the head makes a difference yet?

Actually..... It has become clear to me that a pink head is very effective. Of the top 4 jigs that are working right now in Lake Houston (for me) all have pink heads.  Pink/pink/pink, pink/black/pink, pink/black/chartreuse, and pink/silver/chatreuse.

I agree with several of the posts.  Contrast in my opinion is key.  Pink heads do seem to outperform others at times, and on my lake orange can be a difference maker as well.  But it is a confidence thing in the end.
Don't sweat the small stuff!
