I love catching bull gill on an ultralight rod combo with 2#- 4# line. They give a real fight for their size when you downsize your rod and reel.

LOL.....The lowest I'll go on line is 6lb, you donate too much tackle with anything lower..... still fun with 6lb when they're that size are bigger....

(Don't know why I did not see this earlier.)

The smaller line keeps you from horsing them in.  But you do lose a lot of tackle, especially if a lot of trash fish are hitting your line.  :(

I like lots of bream on light gear.  4 lb test is good but you can lose terminal tackle with it.

But hey, I use only 6 lb for those toothy northern fish that measures in at around 2 foot long.  But I also use a loose drag setting.  Play, not horsing is one way how ya can do it.  :fish
